Tags are a way of identifying and grouping students. Sometimes you need to work with only a subset of students and tags are the tool in DYB that lets you do this. Tags can help you organize lists of students or also look at outcomes for a particular set of students. All users can make their own tags to make it easier to search for students and run reports on groups of students, such as those in a particular cycle or cohort. You can see and manage every student's tags on the Student Overview Page (below the Overview section) and on the Tags Page.
There are two types of tags – User Tags andSystem Tags.
Tags on the Students list. User Tags in blue, System Tags in gray.
User Tags
User Tags (blue) are created by you or members of your program team to make groups. You can group students into any way that is useful to your program just by creating a tag. Some examples we’ve seen are tags for case managers, a particular funding source, class names or even tags reminding staff to check on a student’s data. See Managing and Adding Tags for how to make your own User Tag.
System Tags
System Tags (gray) are automatically generated by DYB and are based on the data that you enter about your students. There are over 350 System Tags – ranging from demographic characteristics like sex and race, to exit year, to certificate type earned and more. These tags allow YouthBuild USA to make official grouping of students with commonalities across all programs. System tags are not editable.
Where to Work With Tags in DYB
You can view and/or edit tags in multiple places in DYB:
- Tags Page – View all User Tags, Edit User Tags for groups or individuals. See Managing and Adding Tags.
- Students List – View only, All User Tags and only Cohort Year
- Individual Student’s Overview Page – View & Edit User Tags for that particular student, View Cohort Year (at very top, under name)
- System Tags are non-editable and can only be viewed with the Tag Picker found when filtering the Students List or Reports. For more on the Tag Picker, see Using the Tag Picker to Filter Reports by Tags.
